Thomas Quine's yard was located in the village opposite Moreton Road. The new by-pass (now Arrowe Park Road) was built on the site of the yard in 1938.

Gallagher & Co was an Off-License which was located at 140 Ford Road. The off-license later became Ashe and Nephew before closing. The shop is now the Labour Party constituency office.

Pilkington's Chemist

Pilkington's Chemist Shop was at No 100 Ford Road, between the Co-op bakery and Martin's bank. The bank later expanded into No 100 and Pilkington's moved to No 142 Ford Road, between Waterworths (the greengrocer) and Ashe and Nephew (off license). This shop is still a chemist but is now called L.Rowlands.

E.J.Clarke's shop was between the Dairy and the Betting Office. The shop remained a fishmongers for many years, with different owners. It later became a travel agent and is now part of an Indian Restaurant

James Burns

James Burns Shoe Shop was one of the oldest businesses in Upton, having been established in 1863. The shop was next to Williams the Greengrocer. The shop closed following talk of a local scandal and remained empty for several years. The shop is now occupied by Ladbrokes bookmakers.

Gartside's Chemist was at 159 Ford Road, next to Irwins grocery store. The shop is now occupied by Age Concern.

William Byrom and Sons

William Byrom ran his business from the 'Red House' at 132 Ford Road. The building was demolished in the early 60s and a Maypole Supermarket was built on the site. The supermarket building is now occupied by Archers Health and Fitness Club.
