Shone Brothers

Albert Shone bought his shop in 1908, the shop had previously been the village saddlers, kept by Mr Fred Salisbury, and had a public weighing machine in the road.

When he first opened the shop, he made saddles and other leather equipment for local farmers, he also made and repaired money bags for Birkenhead Corporation Transport.

As horses went out of fashion, he started selling and repairing bicycles and motor accessories. He had one of the first hand pumped petrol pumps on the Wirral.

The hand pump was replaced with an electric pump, but there was very little change in the shop for nearly 54 years.

In 1962 Mr Shone was unable to carry on and retired.

The shop was sold to developers who also bought the cottage next door, they demolished both buildings and built two new shop units..
