There had been horse racing in Upton since 1762, but due to general apathy this was discontinued.

Racing returned to Upton on Easter Saturday 1922.

Upton Race Course in 1923

The track was over 1½ miles in length and was built on Upton Park, next to Upton Manor on Moreton Road.

Racing only lasted until August 1924 due to a successful claim to part of the land by Wallasey Corporation.

The Moreton Spur to the M53 motorway now runs across Upton Park.
